Multidisciplinary artist Yuko Mohri comes to Helsinki on 4 November 2026 as a Saastamoinen Foundation Keynote lecturer. Mohri’s keynote lecture, titled “Assume That There is Friction and Resistance” will be held in Dance House Helsinki, Cable Factory, November 4, 2026, starting at 5 PM. Free entry, no registration needed.

Tokyo-based Mohri (Kanagawa, 1980), who represented Japan at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024, is known for her kinetic sculptures and sound-based works. Her installations are made of everyday objects, natural materials like fruits or water, and physical phenomena such as gravity, sound, air, electricity and light. As they move, change and grow over time, her works have lives of their own.

The lecture series, organised by Saastamoinen Foundation and the Academy of Fine Arts of Uniarts Helsinki promotes international dialogue and opportunities for young artists in the visual arts field in Finland. The annual lecture invites internationally recognised, pioneering figures to Finland.
